Before your Procedure
You will be provided with a written copy of the pre-operative instructions as your exam appointment, along with any written prescriptions necessary to take prior.Here are some recommendations to make your appointment as smooth as possible:
- Get a good night’s rest and good meal the night before
- For afternoon appointments, eat a balanced breakfast and drink plenty of fluids
- You may consider taking the day off work for the procedure to rest after
- Many patients are able to return to work the next day
- Wear comfortable clothing
- Refrain from drinking excess caffeine
- Do not wear excess makeup
- If doing sedation, have a driver to take you to and from appointment, and follow instructions for medications
- If not doing sedation, you may drive yourself to and from the appoinment
- If not already provided, you may receive antibiotics and a pre-rinse at the appointment
- Please check in 10 minutes prior to procedure
- Relax, you are in good hands!

After your Procedure
We will provide you with any necessary medications, gauze, and post-op instructions. We will set up a follow-up visit 2 weeks later to check on healing.We want your healing to go smoothly, so please refer to these helpful tips:
- Get some rest and limit strenuous activity for 3 days
- Ice the outside of your face in the area for 20 minutes on and off for the first 24 hours
- Rinse with warm salt water rinses 3x/day, especially after meals, after the first 24 hours
- Warm salt water rinse is 8oz warm water and 1 teaspoon salt
- Soft, balanced diet for 2 weeks: Smoothies, yogurt, soups, mashed potatoes, eggs, fish, noodles, ice cream, fruit juice, cottage cheese, etc.
- Avoid crunchy, hard foods, especially in surgical area for 2 weeks
- Yoga, walking, light running, and other mild to moderate exercise is OK after first few days, within your comfort level
- Use prescriptions as directed
- For discomfort, we recommend 400-600mg ibuprofen every 6 hours. This is usually sufficient to keep most patients comfortable. If this is not enough, 500-1000mg tylenol can be taken in addition to ibuprofen
- Please call Dr. Brancheau on his direct number given to you at your surgical appointment with any concerns or questions after hours, he will be more than happy to help!
