At Lynnwood Periodontics & Implants we believe in offering the most innovative and predictable procedures to our patients. Whenever possible, we aim to provide the most convenient and comfortable solution if a tooth needs to be replaced. Immediate implant placement involves placing the implant at the same time the tooth is extracted - essentially combining what would have been separate surgeries into one. This procedure can be performed for most teeth and shortens the overall time to receive your implant crown to 3-4 months instead of 6-8 months. Studies have shown it is as predictable as conventional implant placement (tooth already missing) and over 99% of implants Dr. Brancheau places this way integrate successfully. For anterior teeth, it can also minimize loss of bone and enhance esthetic outcomes. Patients usually find this treatment to be the most convenient approach, and we will review if this option may be right for you.

The procedure takes about 45 minutes to one hour and is performed under local anesthesia. After the tooth is extracted, the implant is placed into the socket and a small bone graft placed to fill any gaps. Sometimes a soft tissue graft is also placed. Sutures may or may be used depending on the case. We will see you for a 2 week post-op to make sure healing is going well and review the next step. In 3-4 months, your dentist will be able to take an impression and get the implant restored with the final abutment and crown.

Benefits of Immediate Implant Placement

  • Shortened recovery time and time to final restoration

  • Convenience : One extraction/implant surgery instead of two

  • Better esthetics for anterior cases
