Periodontal Maintenance

After you have received scaling and root planing or other periodontal therapies, the goal is to ensure that your gums and teeth stay healthy over a lifetime. A customized maintenance program will help address areas of your teeth and gums that still need improvement, and prevent future issues from arising. Dr. Brancheau and the team at Lynnwood Periodontics & Implants believe that regular periodontal maintenance is the key to long-term success for any treatment you receive.

During your periodontal maintenance appointment, we will update your medical and dental history, review oral hygiene, and perform radiographs and charting as needed. Your teeth will then be cleaned with an ultrasonic scaler, hand instruments, and polished to remove stain. We will address specific areas of concern, and inform you if conditions are improving, staying the same, or need more attention. Periodontal maintenance is often performed by a hygienist and occasionally Dr. Brancheau.

We work closely with your referring general dentist or specialist to coordinate periodontal maintenance visits, and will send correspondence to keep your record up to date. Visits are usually 60 minutes in duration and can be performed every 3, 4 or 6 months. Your dentist and periodontist will recommend the frequency of cleanings that best suit your needs to keep your teeth and gums stable.
